For those of you who know me, you know that I am an avid fan of travel. I love travel. I love everything that it means and everything that it brings..

With the new year there are many new articles coming out with this in the title “…places to see in your 20’s”…and this makes me uncomfortable.

Why would this make you uncomfortable, you ask?

I am not sure why these posts are popular or why they are written. I can only assume it is because travelling in your 20’s is easier because you are young, fit, healthy and able….except I’m not that, and I am 24. I rarely have energy, I always have brain fog, and I am quite often anxious (on top of a lot of other things) because I have Hashimoto’s & Fibromyalgia; Hashis is a really (not) fun autoimmune disease (aka invisible illness) that thinks it owns my body. Fribro is chronic pain and fatigue disorder which is not understood very well by doctors. So this essentially means that I suffer a lot with pain, fatigue, brain fog, weight gain & physical fitness.

The only time in the past 15 years when I have had any relief from these symptoms is when I have travelled, because travel makes me happy. It reduces the stress reaction caused by my mental and physical health therefore making me feel better.

So you will never see me write “(insert number here) places to go in your 20’s” because I believe you can go anywhere and everywhere when you want. Age and fitness be dammed. And when I am 29, 30, 50 and 80 I will still be visiting all the places in the world that I want to, because I can, and doing it when I am 20 is really no different to being 50.

The only places you NEED to go when you are in your 20’s is on a Contiki Tour, because after 35yo you can’t go on one.
