For those of you who are unaware, the Leibster Award has been designed by bloggers, for bloggers. It’s passed from person to person to encourage connection and support within the blogging community, and aims to discover new and upcoming bloggers.
Why did you start travelling?
I wanted to make my way around Australia as a fruit-picker the year I came out of school. Unfortunately I only made it to Ayr from Gympie, which is not that far.. but the meeting of new people and seeing new places really put a fire in my belly to see and do more with my life. Not long after I got home I applied to university to become an archaeologist.
How long do your blog posts tend to be? Why did you choose this length?
This usually depends on what I am writing about. If it is educational, these posts tend to be lengthier. I try to keep every word I write relevant and interesting so that readers do not get easily bored. People tend to respond better to short and to the point statements, lists, and photographs in this day and age of super fast technology; people seem to want to know things or do things immediately.
Who is your favourite travel partner and why?
I would love to say my husband Nick is my favourite travel partner, but the truth is my favourite travel partner is myself. I love being able to do my own thing without other people holding me back. At the same time though, there is noting better than sharing an incredible experience with someone you love.
What is your favorite photo on your blog? Is there a story behind it?
There is a picture of me eating field rat in Thailand. This is my favourite, not because it is a beautiful photo, but because of what it represents. It
How long is your longest trip?
Domestically, I spent 3 months travelling the Queensland coast fruit picking and backpacking. Internationally, I spent 7 weeks in Italy in 2010 for an archaeological ceramics conservation course.
What is your next destination?
We are planning a trip to Bali at the moment. The great thing about Bali is that we can take a direct flight from Townsville (our city). It’s the only intentional destination we can fly to direct from here, which is pretty exciting. Hopefully there will be many more to come!
What is your goal as a blogger until the end of this year (2015)?
My goal was to get 3000 consistent readers per month, which I would like to happily say we have achieved.
Who is your blogger-idol?
The reason I started blogging is because of Australian travel bloggers Brooke from World of Wanderlust, and Caz & Craig from Y Travel Blog. Brooke because of her amazing images, and Y Travel Blog because of their story.
What is something you do while travelling that you would never do otherwise?
Try absolutely everything; food, activities, experiences. I am up for absolutely anything when I am travelling.
How do you keep memory of your travels?
Photography is a hobby of mine so that is definitely one of the ways I keep memories, however I do have a few other ways. I specifically like to collect keyrings and postcards.
What is your favorite social media?
Thank you Bonfire Dreams for our nomination for the Leibster Award. I met Nikoleta in one of the many Facebook groups which we are both apart of. As many new bloggers know, it is hard to find yourself becoming apart of the blogging community, and these groups have definitely helped me find my own place, especially her own group, The Bonfire Dream. That’s what this award is all about isn’t it? Connection.
I would like to nominate Kiki from TravelGypsea, Valter from Tourist by Chance, Stephane and Isabelle from clicheferguson.org, Lindsay from The Small World Project, Montserrat Martinez from I Say Let’s Go, Claudia from Eat, Drink, Love, Live, Marie from Marie Away, Jake and Lisa from Your Own Trail, Austin and Kyra from Wayward and Weary, and Tiffany from agirlandherpassport.com.
