The Fraser Coast encompasses the towns of Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Tiaro, the Great Sandy Strait and smaller coastal communities in between. Known to be host to some of the worlds natural wonders, the Fraser Coast is a bustling tourism hot spot, frequented by backpackers from all over the globe. Hervey Bay is the Whale watching capital of Queensland and each year draws crowds worldwide to experience the beautiful creatures that are Humpback whales. Of the coastal towns in Queensland, Hervey Bay is the prime spot to catch a glimpse of these gentle giants of the sea, this is because they use the bay to shelter and rest before continuing their journey into the warmer waters each year. Opposite the bay and stretching as far south as Rainbow Beach is the largest sand island in the world, Fraser Island; another backpacker hotspot and amazingly beautiful part of Queensland. The Fraser Coast is also your last chance to reach the Southern Great Barrier Reef before heading off further South.
