Sisterhood of the World

I am so excited and beyond grateful to receive the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award from TrippinTwins! Erica and Tara are twins from the USA. We’ve only recently started interacting with these girls and they are complete GEMS; I’d like to say we are becoming internet friends! They both work 9-5 jobs and spend every spare moment travelling. Majority of their post are for local trips, which is the best point of view you can have! Check out their Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and be sure to follow their adventures 🙂

Our Questions…

1. Why did you decide to start blogging and when did you start?

Well it was really me (Ashlee) who started blogging in January 2014. I wanted to share my experiences with chronic disease and as such my first blog was called The Hypothyroid Diaries, and was on Blogger. You can read about the evolution on The Heritage Travels in our post A Year of Blogging.

2. How many languages can you speak and which ones? Name one language that you cannot speak, but wish you could.

I can speak English fluently as it is my first language, and I can speak enough German to get by. I also know a little Thai and Italian. I would love to be able to read Egyptian Hieroglyphics or speak Latin. It’s the archaeologist in me…

3. What is one of your favorite pictures you took while traveling?

San Gemini Sunset

This is probably my absolute favourite image I have ever taken whilst travelling. It was taken on a very old Canon during my first international trip, to Italy, San Gemini to be exact. It was my first weekend in the country and myself and a couple of others I was with decided to go for a walk to the highest point in San Gemini. There was this beautiful view of the surrounding valley and the villages, and I remember thinking, ‘this is it, this is where I belong’… and the wanderlust was born.

4. Are you a coffee or tea person? What is your favorite shop and city to get your favorite cup from?

This is tough because I absolutely love both, but I would have to choose coffee. It is the first thing I drink in the morning and the last thing I drink at night (I know, it’s bad).. I never liked coffee until I travelled to Italy, so I guess my favourite place to get it from would be anywhere in Italy!

5. What is one of your favorite song lyrics and why does it resonate with you?

Lately I have been absolutely loving Are You With Me by Lost Frequencies. It just inspires my inner wanderlust, and makes me feel free. Even if I am currently not travelling.

6. What are your ultimate travel goals?

My ultimate travel goal is to visit every culturally significant site in the world.. and yes that is huge. You should hear my ultimate career goal (it’s to discover Atlantis, by the way). Dream big my friends, dream big.

7. Where is your hometown?  If we visited, what should we be sure not to miss seeing?

My hometown is more of a home region in the middle of nowhere, where you would probably never visit unless you were an Australian Grey Nomad. It’s called the South Burnett, and it is in Southeast Queensland, kind of. If you do ever find yourself in the area, be sure to visit the national parks. These are absolutely gorgeous.

8. What is your favorite trip you have taken over the last 12 months? What makes it so?

This would have to be my few weeks in Brisbane, Australia. I had never really like Brisbane to be honest. Not sure why. I went there a lot with my school as a child and it always seemed so claustrophobic. I recently recovered from severe depression and anxiety, which I had been dealing with for a long time to say the least, and I visited Brisbane not long after. I saw it in a whole new light; I enjoyed my time there and I even looked forward to going back. I could actually see myself staying there long-term. It’s amazing how different your view of something can change so drastically over time.

9. Who is your favorite book and author?

JK Rowling. Harry Potter. Need I say more? You can find our ULTIMATE guide to Harry Potter filming locations here.

10. What is one of your favorite blogs you have written and why?

My favourites are always the ones which are personal or really mean something to me. At the moment my favourites are Couchsurfing, How I Caught the Travel Bug, and In Your 20s…or Not.

I want to thank Erica and Tara again for nominating me! It is the first time we have been nominated for an award 🙂

OK now for some rules..

Answer the 10 questions assigned by the person who has given you the award, and then give the award to 10 other bloggers with 10 of your own questions. I have chosen 10 bloggers, whom I love to follow, to keep this ball rolling. If you’ve already received the award from someone then I don’t mind if you don’t want to do it again. Also don’t feel obliged to reply, it does take a while, and I will still think you are awesome!
