The annual Townsville Cultural Festival is a celebration of the differences that make up this community; a celebration of cultural diversity that is Australia. For five days every August Townsville is inundated with culture, which includes a large array of stalls at the ‘Global Village’ offering arts, crafts, fashions and giftware from around the world. Local and international entertainment can be seen throughout the day and night, including a choice of folk, rock, pop and Australian Indigenous music, African drum troupes, and South Sea Island, Middle Eastern and Latin dance groups.
But my all time favourite part of the entire week is the food! With over 30 food stalls from countries all over the world, you can indulge yourself in what I like to call a Cultural Feast. Asian, European, Australian, African, Middle Eastern. Your taste buds have never had so much fun. An added bonus is that most of the food stalls are raising money for community projects and activities which means your incredible feast will be helping out the local community groups.
Over 300 groups are involved in the Cultural Fest every year, including the creative arts, cultural community groups, local community groups and sporting groups.
