Average temperatures in the tropics in general rarely drop below 25 degrees Celsius – so make sure you remember to be sun safe. If you do not know Australia’s sun safe campaign, it is Slip, Slop, Slap, Slide & Seek; slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat, slide on sunglasses, and seek shade.
Cyclones are prevalent in the north during cyclone season. There is also the potential for flash flooding as well as bush fires depending on the time of the year. Make sure that you are ready to take on any challenge and adapt plans if you encounter bad weather.
Local wildlife can also be dangerous so please be aware of things such as crocodiles, cassowaries, poisonous animals such as jellyfish and snakes, and stinging plants. Be especially careful when swimming, bushwalking, and driving.
Remember safety comes first and “If it’s flooded, forget it.”
